FAQ

What can I do if I forget my passwords?
No matter you are registered or non-registered user, once you forget the password for ‘Encrypt’, ‘Encrypt into host file’, ‘Encrypt to SDX’, and ‘Encrypt EXE file’, it is useless to ask me for help, because there is nothing I can do. For the folders encrypted with ‘Password-protect folder’, registered users can enable ‘Urgently recover folder’ to recover them, but that is not available for non-registered users. I can provide help for those who forget the password to enter Encryption Shield, but not for non-registered users, considering registered users’ securities. I claim again that there is no universal key! In addition, don’t format the authorized disk, which is equal to losing password!

What will be noticed when Encryption Shield is run in VISTA?
During encryption or decryption, Encryption Shield need read and write the disk continually, so the administrator's purview is required for normal running. Because of the UAC of VISTA, even if running Encryption Shield under the administrator account, the warning message will appear: User Account Control. An unidentified program wants access to your computer. Don't run the program unless you know where it's from or you've used it before. ‘Cancel’......, ‘Allow’......, now click ‘Allow’ and you can run Encryption Shield normally. For convenience, you are suggested to cancel the UAC control, here is the method: click ‘Start’---> ‘All programs’---> ‘Accessories’---> ‘Run’---> put in ‘msconfig’---> click ‘Continue’---> ‘tools’---> ‘Disable UAC’---> ‘Ok’, and then reboot the computer. In this way, you can run Encryption Shield without the warning message.

Why am I asked to input the password to enter Encryption Shield when I use the software for the first time? What is the password?
It is certain that Encryption Shield is not used for the first time on this computer. If it is, you will be asked to specify a password first. After that you’ll need it every time to enter Encryption Shield. Perhaps you or others once used Encryption Shield on the computer, so the password is the former one.

Is it safe to hide passwords in the encrypted file?
Yes, it’s absolutely safe because the passwords have been encrypted before hidden in files!

Will the hidden or encrypted folders be lost if I use disk defragmenter software or sweeper software?
They won’t be lost absolutely!

How to uninstall Encryption Shield ?
For non-registered edition, run Encryption Shield; click ‘Uninstall’ button in the bottom left corner of the pop-up dialog box. For registered edition, enter Encryption Shield, click ‘Tools’ menu, and click ‘Uninstall’. Pay attention that you need password to uninstall Encryption Shield The password for uninstalling Encryption Shield is the same as the one used to startup Encryption Shield.

Will the encrypted file/folder on hard disk be decrypted or restored automatically after I uninstall Encryption Shield?
It is obviously impossible for Encryption Shield to tell the password for each encrypted file on hard disk and decrypt them automatically! If it does, there will be no security for Encryption Shield at all! Please decrypt or recover the encrypted files/folders on hard disk before uninstalling Encryption Shield or before the deadline of 30 evaluation days. As to the users who have surpassed the 30 evaluation days, they will be given the last chance to use it. During the evaluation period, non-registered users should not encrypt important files/folders with Encryption Shield.

When I enable ‘Protect Folders’, why the left buttons are gray while clicking some folders?
Because those are system folders such as My Documents, Desktop, etc. Or it is the folder containing Encryption Shield. To avoid unpredictable aftermath, Encryption Shield doesn’t encrypt them.

All files and folders with hidden attribute not hidden by Encryption Shield on the hard disk become invisible, even if I select "Show all files and folders" in ‘Folder options’ in Windows Explorer. What shall I do?
Because you have clicked ‘Do not show hidden files’ button in ‘Folder tools’. You need only click the button again. It will then turn into "Show hidden files" button. Now, the folders hidden by Encryption Shield r are still invisible, but they have lost a layer of protection!

Why do the files and folders in the folder hidden/encrypted with Encryption Shield all disappear after I show/decrypt it?
There is only one reason: The files and folders in the folder are all with hidden attribute. After you hided/encrypted the folder, you pressed ‘Do not show hidden files’ button. To solve the problem, refer to the question above.

What can I do if I delete a folder carelessly after encrypting it with ‘Password-protect folder’ out of ‘Folder tools’? Could I backup the folders with password protection?
It doesn’t matter because the one you’ve deleted is only a symbol, not the real contents. To solve the problem, enter "Folder tools" and unprotect the folder, then the contents in it will come out. It is meaningless to backup the folders with password protection because what you backup is only a symbol, while the real contents are in the same partition on the disk. You can not see them only because they have been specially managed.

How to use the function of "Password-protect folder" well in the local area network?
For example, there is a folder ‘abcd’ on disk D of computer A. After encrypting ‘abcd’ with Encryption Shield on computer A, how can I visit ‘abcd’ through computer B with the password? At first, you should guarantee that computer B is entitled to read and write files on computer A. Second, you should map disk D on computer A to a disk (for example, disk K) on computer B. (please consult references by yourself about how to map) Now, double-click the file ‘abcd’ on disk K (in fact, it is ‘abcd’ on disk D of computer A), then input the correct password, and you can open the folder.

Can I open on other computers the files/folders encrypted on my computer?
The files encrypted with "Encrypt to SDX" or "Encrypt EXE file" can be decrypted on other computers which don’t install Encryption Shield. Certainly, you must have the correct password. Files encrypted with ‘Encrypt’ or ‘Encrypt into host file’ can be decrypted on computers which install Encryption Shield. Folders disguised with "Disguise folder" are still available when copied on any other computer which does not install Encryption Shield. But you need install Encryption Shield if you want to restore the folders. Folders encrypted with "Password-protect folder" can not be copied to other computers directly to be decrypted, but you can do as follows: enable "Password-protect folder" on a flash disk or movable hard disk to encrypt the folders, and connect the flash disk or movable hard disk with another computer which has installed Encryption Shield, thus they could be decrypted and used. Folders hidden with "Hide folder" can be shown and used only on your computer.
